The inside of your wardrobe or closet
The secret to a relaxing bedroom can lie behind the cupboard doors. So devote as much time to planning the inside as you do to choosing the wardrobe itself. You'll be amazed how many more clothes you can fit in with double-height hanging rails, drawers with dividers and fully extendable drawers that mean you can get to things right at the back.
Hang it all
Usually most people will divide their hanging space with a third of full length hanging for dresses and coats, perhaps wetsuits, ballgowns or motorcycle leathers! Don’t forget that if you hang your trousers from clips hangers full length as opposed to folded over the hanger, these will go into the long hanging section. Usually a height of 1.5 metres is enough, although is you are very tall or short, Deane’s made to measure service can set the rail at exactly the height you need, just tell your designer what’s required. A hat shelf above and a shoe shelf below is a great solution for this space, leaving no useless gaps. This will leave two thirds of short hanging, shirts, sweaters, even long skirts as each rail allows a metre of drop.
Then there are shoes…
You cannot get away from the indisputable fact that most women (and some men) have a thing for shoes and boots. Often a very expensive item, they deserve to be stored accordingly and logically. Over the last 30 years shoe storage solutions have come and gone and Deane have seen most of them. Shelves are still the most sturdy, easily accessible solution. Many of the custom racks look great when they are empty, but get half a dozen pairs of shoes on there and access gets difficult – they take up a lot of space, too. The bottom half of a wardrobe can be used up with only nine pairs, although it has shelf capacity for many more when used more effectively. Deane can make cubby hole type shelves for your favourite shoes, and lots of wider shallow shelves for your everyday footwear. See the ‘end panel shoe cupboard’ in our showroom for a really effective solution, only 10”deep and floor to ceiling, it can take 40-50 pairs!
And everything else?
Hats, handbags, travel bags, gym stuff, you name it, it needs a place – top shelves are ideal. Depending on your ceiling height, organise the area above the hanging rails right up to the ceiling to really work for you.
A final word about your drawers
The main reason for having a wardrobe installed is to create hanging space. There are a couple of ways of looking at stacking storage and drawers, either you will love the idea of closing it all away behind doors, and drawers inside a sliding or hinged door wardrobe work very well, however, remember that what you take up with drawers will really reduce your hanging space, so this is worth careful consideration, as you can nearly always create drawer storage elsewhere in your room, in an alcove perhaps, or underneath a window. Because Deane can make units of any size to match all wardrobe ranges, perhaps this may be the ideal solution.
